The Quiet Game of Office Politics
In every workplace, beyond tasks, deadlines, and job descriptions, there’s something quieter but just as powerful shaping daily life: office politics. Whether subtle or overt, internal politics influence how people behave, who advances, and who feels stuck. It can be hard to spot at first, but its effects are lasting. What Is Office Politics? Office politics refers to the informal,…

My conspiracy theory is that one of the reasons they fired Stephanie J. Block for the role of Elphaba in 2000 and replaced her with Idina Menzel at the end of the OBC workshops is because SJB played the role SO gay that it was quickly crossing the line of plausible deniability. Like she doesn't seem to be able to help herself.
And thank god she eventually got to play the role on Broadway (arguably one of the best - if not THE best - actresses who ever did), because we finally got to see her get super fucking handsy and stare lovingly into Glinda's eyes inches away from her face for three hours:
Like holy shit why do you keep looking at Annaleigh Ashford like you want to eat her alive??
Plus I cannot emphasize enough just how effective and moving this particular version of For Good is. Straight up feels like wedding vows.
(Ironically, she also has the best chemistry with Fiyero's character, and arguably the very sweetest performance of As Long As You're Mine in the entire slime tutorial universe.* So I'm just reading this as a Thropple Truther performance.)
*But that's just because she was (and still is) literally married to him. So they get uh. A little carried away in their performance. *cut to Sebastian Arcelus holding lantern up, his face covered in green makeup from aggressively making out with his wife on stage for several minutes* Apparently the makeup team HATED that song for them.
#wicked#gelphie#stephanie j block#I will literally NEVER stop yelling about her being robbed#my Roman Empire etc etc#not Menzel's fault obvi but I wish there was more recognition of SJB's contribution#most of the songs were written for her - only one song (Wizard and I) actually originated with Menzel#they said she was a 'less experienced performer' but I think she just played the character too gay??#my tin foil hat#tin man hat if you will#anyways hmu if you want a link to this performance#thropple#Annaleigh Ashford

I'm only just now looking at Batman and Robin: Year One, and right off the bat, I noticed Waid has already made a connection to his writing from Batman vs. Robin #3.
In Batman vs. Robin, Dick, while under a possession that made him air his deepest grievances, berated Bruce for taking him away from the joy and recognition he got as a performer in the circus, and instead of getting to continue that experience, Dick Grayson was hidden behind a mask.

Batman vs. Robin #3
In Batman and Robin: Year One, Bruce brings up the fact that only a few weeks ago, Dick had an adoring crowd chanting his name. Now, in the present, Dick is masked and anonymous.

Batman and Robin: Year One #1
#mmm i mean i kinda get it because i remember reading an old issue where dick was playing in a basketball game#and he couldn't play to his full potential because he didn't want people to make the connection to him being robin#so he is hiding his real self away in that type of instance#but also in other stories when he was a bit older i suppose--dick would still perform in circuses#and he would still have that chance to perform and get recognition as dick grayson#but also robin's accomplishments are dick's accomplishments so i feel like any praise robin would get would resonate as dick's own#waid is really putting more emphasis on adding more value to the name dick grayson i guess. or dick's actual identity.#and i'm not sure dick really needs that--especially because when he was in the circus--people knew his FAMILY'S name#but not necessarily HIS name#like on the posters it would be The Flying Graysons#it's not like his name was front and center and that his individual name was getting recognition#it was his family's name. the family act that that was getting the attention#and in that way dick is still anonymous to a certain extent#i mean sure i guess when the flying graysons go on--each performer's name could be announced. and people would know his face.#but still. i don't know if it's really That big of a deal to dick#Dick Grayson

can we please take one moment to appreciate hoshi in maestro's choreography. him in the opening. ohmygod. him tapping the baton on his back. him handling it throughout the majority of the choreo but only ever properly using it during his parts. him using it like a pro during his parts. him handing it to minghao and receiving it back. him not breaking the damn baton during the dance break. him handing it to wonwoo for the ending. maestro hoshi you're so cool. also his snatched waist.

Me: trying to sleep.
My brain: do you remember the memorial to the child paragon in Caridin's Cross?
Child Paragon – the deeds and name are unknown, the memorial in Caridin's Cross has been worn away by time or vandalized by darkspawn
#i'm working on a drawing of my brosca's tomb/paragon statue so i've been looking at the wiki for pictures and was reminded of this D:#Branka invented a smokeless coal / Caridin created golems / Aeducan led Orzammar to victory in the First Blight...#when you look at what qualifies a paragon - what must this kid have done to receive that kind of recognition?#I don't actually *want* it to be answered - I think it works better as something to inspire thought by not being concretely answered#better serving as an example of how during the blights/the loss of each thaigs there were children there in the middle of it#something you don't see in the game because there are no tiny dwarf children#how they were dragged into conflict - with some performing exceptional deeds -> inevitably being forgotten to time#and this stuck in my mind so they succeeded in making me think about this!#(there's also one paragon whose Dr Seuss lmao - he was just so good with rhymes it had to be immortalized in stone.)#(so maybe i am thinking too hard about this and this kid was just really good at hop scotch or something)#dragon age#dragon age origins

Underlining the question of 'whose decision was it to have The Kiss of Judas overlooking their marital bed?' with thick red marker.
#compelling cases for both parties#a performance of shame and penance from Armand#a reminder to Louis of what was done to him#an attempt at distancing the act to that of a familiar story beat#a subtle attempt at reframing the outcome so that Louis too becomes something greater than his previous form through death and suffering#while the last supper imagery is quite good too that fond kiss on the cheek for all to see is the clincher#it is less the equivalent of Louis and Lestat's last dance but the speech that Lestat gave on the balcony#a recognition that nothing will be the same in their relationship after what they are about to do#Armand#Louis de Pointe du Lac#Interview with the Vampire#Interview with the Vampire Spoilers#Jagged Jottings

Why isn't there more people talking about Sweetpea? The show is pretty entertaining, Ella did such an fantastic job with Rhiannon, she's really an amazing actress with many talents for different types of characters, she got to show a very different side with this one and I really believe she nailed it
#Sweetpea#ella purnell#I haven't finished the show yet#So I can't say if it's all good or if it gets lost towards the end#But focusing only on Ella's performance#It's magnificent#And she deserves more recognition#She's growing a lot as an actress and it's always so much fun to watch that#At least I love to see young actors improvement through each show/movie they work on

Usually I get a little frustrated when kpop fans attach like, one single trait/joke/theme to an idol because theyve mentioned it a few times... like "oh shes said she likes M&Ms once so pets bring it up at every possible occassion for the next decade."
And I kinda thought that's what people were doing with Hoshi, like okay I get it hes mentioned he likes tigers a few times guys im sure he has other characteristics though... but then.... I watched a lot of svt content and..... this man really is obsessed and has been forever like its valid for fans to make it his whole personality bc hes done that himself already 😭
#I really was like “why are fans obsessed with fitting tigers into 100% of hoshi content?”#but I was mistaken#it is hoshi who is obsessed with fitting tigers into 100% of hoshi content#he has no other thoughts only 🐅#though I will say I do wish people give a bit more recognition to how insanely talented he is as a performer too#but yknow#hes a talented tiger man#hoshi#seventeen

I’m glad that I have basic-ass taste in music (Rachmaninoff piano concerto 3 is my favorite piece) because then I actually have opportunities to hear it performed live
If I were into another composer or piece (let’s just throw out Bortkiewicz for absolutely no reason) then I don’t think I’d be as lucky
#talking#bortkiewicz is probably my favorite composer overall even if rach 3 takes the top spot for favorite composition#he does not get the recognition he deserves#sometimes I feel like he has like 10 fans. me. two people on Reddit who can’t decide if his works are derivative or not#3 pianists who perform his work. and 4 people arguing about his nationality on his Wikipedia page. it’s different ever time I look#what I wouldn’t give to see some of his works performed live#I guess I’ll just be happy and satisfied that the other russian* romantic composer named Sergei is popular#*wikipedia editors do not come after me for this one. I am making this comparison to Rachmaninoff#not necessarily taking a stance on his nationality one way or the other

Thinking once again about the very weird emotional reaction I had (am still having) re: Timothee Chalamet's performance in Dune Part 2. Because I came out of that theatre legit a little scared of that guy, which is not something I ever thought I'd be able to say -- he's very much not an intimidating person in most people's minds and if you'd told me what Part 2 was like before I knew anything about Dune I wouldn't have been able to believe it. But he's so good, and I think part of the reason he works so well in this new phase of Paul's character especially is because of that audience perception of him as an actor, because you go into it thinking "this shouldn't work" and then it does work, and that weird dissonance makes it work even more in a meta way. Paul as a character also isn't supposed to seem like he could be this crazy warrior cult leader, and then he is and people within the narrative believe it and it feels within the narrative like it isn't supposed to work, yet somehow does. The fact that it Feels Wrong is perfect because it's supposed to.
#dune#dune part 2#timothée chalamet#paul atreides#no i will not hear anyone try to tell me he was miscast#and it's so weird bc paul in part 1 is kind of closer to the type of role audiences were used to seeing him in#so it felt more fitting#and then you get to part 2 and it's like. hm there's no way he'll be able to Do That. oh he's actually Doing It and doing it really well#in a terrifying way#and the fact that he CAN sell all that is ??? so unexpected which makes it work even more within the story#ghnnnnn I can't articulate this well but y'all know what i mean#also: i wish he got more recognition for how damn good he was in part 2???#tbh i feel like he was overshadowed by austin butler which i GET he was great and his role was super impactful esp. for its size#but it's a shame he had to come in right when timmy was giving the performance of his life lol

a performance in euskera / basque in one of the main late night shows in the country on national public television let's fucking gooo !!!!
also if you like this style, i highly recommend both izaro and baiuca. izaro is literally my favourite basque singer, all her discography is incredible, literally no notes. and baiuca is an electro-folk producer / dj ?. i think they're galician because most of their stuff is with galician artists, but as you can see her they aren't limited to that. in fact, they have an ep with alba reche that is incredible, i listen to it pretty regularly.
youtube
#euskera#basque#izaro my belovedest i'm so happy she's getting the recognition she deserves <333#btw i learned this years ago cause i had a twitter mutual also named izaro but the name means star!!! so she's basically named stella#but like. 10 times prettier#also i cannot skip over the fact that the love of my life and future wife valeria castro is one of the back-up vocals for this performance#(the middle one) which makes this whole performance so so so incredible#Youtube
